Silence Is Bliss

Beavers, Cubs & Rainbows from the 11th/24th St John with St Mark Scout group challenged themselves to a sponsored silence. In the period of one whole hour the bunch of brave juniors managed to keep quiet as a mouse!

Between them they managed to raise a whopping £400.00 - not bad going we think!
And what a lovely gesture from such young people, spreading the awareness for the sick patients at Bury Hospice.

We were extremely grateful with the kind donation and the money will help towards the funding for the New Hospice set to go ahead in 2012.

A Very BIG Thank You!!!!

From everyone at Bury Hospice  x

We Wish You A Merry Christmas

Ho Ho Ho!!!
It's gonna be a SWEET Christmas for Santa

If you are struggling to find something reasonable this Christmas - by this I mean something reasonably priced for that person you NEVER know what to buy.

How about treating them a nifty little stocking filler which could benefit not only the taste buds of your loved one, but the well-being of someone elses loved one?

By purchasing a Slattery's Chocolate Foot for £15.00 , £12.00 will cover the funding of one foot of the New Bury Hospice. So not only will your careful & thoughtful purchase have helped benefit the lives of patients at the New Hospice to come, you'll also be able to be remembered for it on the Footfall Wall of Fame & get a Tasty Chocolate Treat.

What other Christmas Gift could possibly be more heart warming then this? In doing such an effortless and easy deed it really will make someone elses Christmas...so please, please think about us.

Many Happy Wishes for the Christmas Holidays & New Year!!!

THUMBS UP!

Building A New Hospice For Bury would like to give thanks to all of our supporters old and new! As the newest addition to the Fundraising Team & only arriving in September I have witnessed the mass enthusiasm from the people of Bury.

From local businesses, Pubs & Venues, School kids & teachers to Ladies swimming clubs - EVERYONE has got stuck in it to help fund the money for a New Bury Hospice! Everyone who is aware of the appeal has given something -  and we would like to say THANKYOU!!!

Without any of you this large-scale project would be IMPOSSIBLE which is why it is lovely to know that throughout time not a single thing has changed - as it was YOU that also funded the money for the original Hospice in 1991!

Each year it costs £1.8 million to keep the present Hospice running & even though we are asking people to donate to the New Build we would also like to remind you that the present Hospice still heavily relies on the community with less then 20% funding coming from the NHS.

If you fancy doing something different & would like to fundraise or need any inspiration please call: 0161 763 1545

A TREAT FULL OF FEET!!!

SLATTERY CHOCOLATE FEET
EAT YOUR WAY TO A NEW HOSPICE

As you know the Capital Appeal is well under way pledging the public to donate to the New Hospice. But with Christmas in the pipeline we know and understand how difficult it is to donate at such an expensive and stressful time of year.

Famous for his delightful skill in producing the finest chocolate, John Slattery has kindly offered to team up with the campaign to build a New Hospice - designing delicious chocolate feet for all!

The 19.5cm x 9.5cm milk chocolate foot also includes your name to be filled in and placed on the New Bury Hospices footfall Wall of Fame, as not only would you have purchased a chocoloate foot but also a foot of the New Bury Hospice - Brilliant!!

The chocolate feet will be priced at £15, remember that it costs £12 to buy a foot of the New Hospice so for an extra £3 thats a rather tasty treat for you and a lot of money going to a good cause!

For further information about availability and where you can purchase the Slattery milk chocolate feet from please do not hesitate to contact us on 0161 763 1545. Thank you for continuing to support the current Hospice as well as the new.

INVESTMENT FOR THE FUTURE

The campaign is now in full-swing with a variety of options in how to donate! People are finding it much easier to donate to the Hospice by phoning in, filling out or standing order forms, posting us cheques or even popping into our Charity Shops & donating cash.

Whatever your reasons, you care and you are showing your support by thinking of the people at the Hospice as well as your loved ones! If you donate £12 you can buy a foot of the New Bury Hospice and your name will go on the Footfall Wall of Fame!

So who else are we sending this message to? Businesses in and around Bury have shown their support to the Hospice for many years and have continued to do so, making the target a more achievable goal. They have helped out with fundraising events, chosen us to be their 'adopted' charity and even made one-off donations to help with the cost.

Why your business should get involved! The Director of Fundraising Claire Warner says:
Choosing Bury Hospice as a charity partner is a great way of showing your support. It shows that your company is willing to go above and beyond the normal call of duty to support the local community.
Every penny donated by your company will help provide the essential elements needed to keep the Hospice in working order. Previous Hospices have encouraged businesses to pledge for rooms, reception areas, technical equipment - whatever the preference may be.

Bury Hospice has 27 available rooms ranging between £17,000 - £156,000! If you would like to enquire further about any of the above; whether it be setting up your own event, fundraising ideas, or more details about how your business could help please do not hesitate to contact us!
We look forward to speaking to you soon,

yours sincerely,

Ruth Lane

WE NEED YOU!

WHY WE THINK YOU SHOULD VOLUNTEER

Bury Hospice not only needs funds raising for its new appeal to build a new Hospice but also individuals who are caring, selfless and want to do something worthwhile and useful with their spare time. Interestingly during this economic downfall hundreds of school-leavers, sixth-formers, college students and graduates are struggling to find work! There appears to be a catch 22 with employment, if you have qualifications then you need work experience and if you have work experience then you need qualifications. So why not think ahead?

Unemployment is higher then ever so the competition is also pretty tough - you need something that will make you and your CV stand out from the crowd. So you've had a couple of part-time jobs and helped out by baby-sitting the next door neighbours kids, but does this really mean you are a keen, dilligent, worthwhile employee? Set an example, show that you care about the people in your community, that you are capable of working alongside people from all walks of life and that you have a willingness to devote your time to something you believe in.

Even if it is only a few hours at the weekend before football practice or maybe three evenings a fortnight after college - you can tailor-make the volunteering to suit your own lifestyle and needs. Just think of how you are benefiting the lives of others, working in a team constructed to deliver well-being for the terminally-ill.

So what roles are there? You can volunteer at the Hospice, Charity Shops (Bury, Ramsbottom, Prestwich & Radcliffe), the Lottery or at Fundraising Events put on by the Hospice or even yourself! Think you like the sound of it?

'T' minus 18 hours and counting

So here we are, the eve of our Capital Appeal launch!  Our Celebrity Supporters have all confirmed their attendance at tomorrow's launch, our hosts Debenhams have been wonderful as ever, all of the promotional literature and supplies have arrived and all we need to do now is get a good night's sleep and pray for a 'quiet' news day tomorrow to ensure maximum press coverage.

The people of Bury really do deserve a Bigger and Better Hospice.  Tomorrow begins the final fundraising push to ensure that ambition becomes a reality!

Please come down to Debenhams if you can and support us!  We'll be there from 3pm - 7pm and, for the first hour or so, will be joined by Lisa Riley, Ben Thompson, Sam Aston and Noreen Kershaw.

See you tomorrow
