Schools all set for fundraising Choir Contest

(Thursday January 27th 2011)

Hundreds of school children will be hoping to hit all the right notes in Bury Hospice’s first choir competition. Pupils at 10 primary schools across the borough are taking part in the contest, which starts next Wednesday. Each group will consist of up to 50 children and they will sing two contrasting songs of their choice. Three heats will be held next week, with a panel of judges choosing which two choirs from each round will go to the grand final on Friday, February 11th.
The choirs will then perform again for the opportunity to win the inaugural competition. Up for grabs for the winning choir are a session with the Halle Choir’s vocal coach, Maggie McDonald, tickets to a Halle concert, music vouchers and a trophy. Smaller trophies will be presented to the winners of each heat and every child will receive a medal. Claire Warner, the hospices director of fundraising said: “ We are gobsmacked and delighted that so many schools are taking part. The thought of having so many children singing for the hospice is fantastic.
“The competition has already been more successful than we ever dreamed it would be, especially for the first event. Having seen how popular it is this year, we intend to make it an annual event.” Heats will be held at Radcliffe Civic Suite next Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, starting at . The February 11 final will start at the same time. The programme is as follows:

Follow In The Foot-Steps Of...

Brandlesholme Support Group

Bury Hospice relies deeply on the support of our community - whether it be businesses, schools or individuals. The idea of a support group allows people to come together to raise funds for the Hospice.

You don't have to have a background in fundraising, all you need is the motivation to want to help the Hospice! So if you fancy organising your own event or sponsorsed (something) feel free to give us a bell.

We can have as much or as little involvement as you like giving you support and advice if you need as well as resources for flyers, posters and tickets!

If you are interested in setting up a support group please contact our Community Fundraiser Michelle King on 0161 797 1748.

£1000 - Horsey Does It!

Bury Hospice would like to give special thanks to Hilary Hartley, the owner of Horsebits in Ramsbottom. By putting on a 'Christmas Extravaganza' during December 2010 the saddlery and riding wear shop raised a considerable £1000 for Bury Hospice!!!

Over £500 was raised through the shops tombola, silent auction and games! Hilary generously offered that whatever money raised from the event, she would price match - making a grand total over £1000!

Without people like Hilary it would be impossible for the Hospice to aim to reach such targets especially during the economic downfall.

If you are interested in helping our campaign 'Building A New Hospice For Bury' whether it be through donating £1 to £10,000 or more - please do not hesitate to give us a call on 0161 763 1545 or email capitalappeal@buryhospice.org.uk
