Hundreds of school children will be hoping to hit all the right notes in Bury Hospice’s first choir competition. Pupils at 10 primary schools across the borough are taking part in the contest, which starts next Wednesday. Each group will consist of up to 50 children and they will sing two contrasting songs of their choice. Three heats will be held next week, with a panel of judges choosing which two choirs from each round will go to the grand final on Friday, February 11th.
The choirs will then perform again for the opportunity to win the inaugural competition. Up for grabs for the winning choir are a session with the Halle Choir’s vocal coach, Maggie McDonald, tickets to a Halle concert, music vouchers and a trophy. Smaller trophies will be presented to the winners of each heat and every child will receive a medal. Claire Warner, the hospices director of fundraising said: “ We are gobsmacked and delighted that so many schools are taking part. The thought of having so many children singing for the hospice is fantastic.
